This afternoon, Sporting Clube de Portugal faced PSV Eindhoven in Orlando, in a match valid for the group stage of the Champions League. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, in a match where the saying of former Sporting coach Chiquinho Conde, "If you can't win, you can't lose," seemed to make perfect sense.
The Sporting team, which included Mozambican international Geny Catamo in the starting eleven, began the game at a disadvantage. PSV opened the scoring after just 15 minutes, with J. Schouten taking advantage of a mistake in the visitors' defense to make it 1-0. From then on, Sporting grew into the game, creating some dangerous opportunities, but went into halftime still trailing.
In the second half, the scenario remained the same. The Dutch team continued to create more dangerous situations, but Sporting, led by Rúben Amorim, showed improvement. Amorim made changes to the Sporting lineup and, in the 67th minute, decided to replace Geny Catamo with Daniel Bragança. The change proved decisive, as it was Bragança who, in the 83rd minute, scored the equalizing goal for Sporting, ensuring that the Portuguese team maintained its unbeaten record.
With this result, Sporting extended their unbeaten run in official matches this season to nine, counting seven games in the Portuguese League and two in the Champions League. Rúben Amorim's team continues to show consistency, even though they were unable to leave the Netherlands with a victory.
