A singer, songwriter, and producer who shares his talent in "Voices of the Pearl of the Indian Ocean," an Apathany initiative that aims to contribute positively to the elevation of Mozambican culture. Today we bring you Aleixo's opinion on this initiative, we seek to understand his ambition in music, and being a young man from the province of Manica, more recently in Maputo, we seek to know if it is easier to reach the spotlight being in the capital, or if that's just a thing of the past.
Talent exists in every corner of the country, and in the past it was believed that success could only be achieved by being in the Mozambican capital; there are countless examples. Several singers and artists had to come to Maputo to reach the peak of their careers, but in the 21st century, 2023, is that still the case in Mozambique? Alexio Junior countered this question.
“I used to believe that, but not anymore. The internet and social media allow us to shine and express who we are and what we have, from anywhere,” said Alexio, speaking about one of the advantages of the internet for artists, or art makers in general. The young man from Manica province aspires to make a living from music, and there are new projects coming out this month that will certainly be available here on Apathany, the home of Mozambican music.
Finally, we sought his perspective on the "Voices of the Pearl of the Indian Ocean" initiative and the potential changes it could bring to society. Alexio Junior didn't want to elaborate much and briefly stated, "I believe that if executed with focus, discipline, well-organized and systematic work, it can contribute greatly to culture." Its premiere is this Saturday, August 5th. See his statement about Apathany and click the blue button to watch this week's video.
