Game-changing technology! VAR activated at the COSAFA U-20 semi-final in Mozambique

The COSAFA U-20 Championship, currently taking place at the Tchumene Sports Complex in the municipality of Matola, experienced a significant milestone this afternoon with the activation of VAR (Video Assistant Referee). This technology, designed to ensure greater accuracy in decisions and reduce controversy, was used for the first leg of the semi-finals, a match between Angola and South Africa. South Africa emerged victorious, securing its place in the final.

The use of VAR demonstrates COSAFA's commitment to modernizing competitions and ensuring fairness in youth football. The system was used at crucial moments, helping maintain transparency throughout the game and ensuring that controversial decisions were reviewed.

In the second semi-final, between Zimbabwe and Zambia, the Zambian team secured victory, sealing their ticket to the grand final, where they will face the mighty South Africa. With VAR now part of the picture, the final is expected to be even more exciting and fair, maintaining the focus on the play and the young talent being developed in the tournament.

The activation of VAR in Mozambique is a milestone for African football, especially at the grassroots level, and demonstrates that the continent is ready to embrace the latest technological innovations to promote the sport with greater fairness and accuracy.
