The training camp for the seven Mozambican athletes who will represent the country at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games has already begun. Since last Thursday, the athletes and their coaches have been in the French city of Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, where they will complete a 15-day training camp before competing in the world's largest sporting competition.
The Mozambique Olympic Committee organized and financed this training camp, aiming to boost athletes' confidence and allow them to acclimate to European temperatures, crucial for a good performance at the Games.
The Mozambican athletes who will be present at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are:
– Alcinda Panguana (Women’s Boxing)
– Deisy Nhaquile (Sail)
– Jacira Ferreira (Judo)
– Steven Sabino (Athletics)
– Tiago Muxanga (Boxing)
– Denise Donelli (Swimming)
– Matthew Lawrence (Swimming)
Each athlete is accompanied by a coach, appointed by their respective sports federations for boxing, sailing, judo, track and field, and swimming. This specialized support ensures that athletes are in the best technical and physical condition to compete.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be a historic edition, marking 100 years since the French capital last hosted the Games. In 1924, Paris hosted many memorable moments and firsts, including the artistic competitions and the sprint races that inspired the film "Chariots of Fire." At that time, 3,089 athletes competed in 126 events across 17 sports.
A century later, the Olympic Games have grown significantly in scale and impact. The Paris 2024 edition will feature 329 medal events across 32 sports, with 10,500 athletes participating. Technological advancements and improvements in sports facilities make today's Games almost unrecognizable compared to those of 1924.
For the seven Mozambican athletes, this is a unique opportunity to represent their country on the global stage and make history. The training camp in Saint-Paul-lès-Dax is essential preparation for them to compete at a high level and, who knows, win medals for Mozambique.
