The Mozambican rapper K9 shared a message of reflection on the September 7th, Victory Day, a holiday that marks the signing of the Lusaka Accords, which paved the way for national independence.
In his publication, the artist questions the true scope of liberation, raising points such as the maintenance of Portuguese as the official language, the influence of the Catholic Church, the adoption of Western clothing and codes, as well as presence of companies and assets linked to Portuguese people in Mozambique.

K9 also recalled situations such as Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Power Plant, whose control passed to the Mozambican state only 15 years after independence, and the persistence of colonial names in national spaces, such as Portuguese Island.
“What kind of day is this anyway?! "Just another day of rest or to eat with your mouth," the rapper wrote, highlighting that the date should be reconsidered and analyzed in light of the country's current situation.
With this stance, K9 gives voice to a perspective that invites Mozambicans to reflect on the meaning of the holiday and its impact on today's society.
