Another baobab tree from Mozambican music, CHICO ANTÓNIO, has lost his life due to illness.

Chico António was born on May 13, 1958, in the Magude district, Maputo province. Between 1979 and 1992, he was part of groups that composed music based on traditional Mozambican rhythms, such as: Instrumental Group No. 1 of light music, RM (a group from Rádio Moçambique), and the Marrabenta Star Orchestra of Mozambique. He later toured countries such as England, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Zimbabwe, Guinea Conakry, and Cape Verde.

In 1990, he won the Discoveries prize from RFI (Radio France International) and received a scholarship to study basic piano techniques, arrangements and studio sound recording.
On April 4, 2018, Chico António received the Career Award from the Maputo Municipal Council, in recognition of his actions to promote and enhance Mozambican culture at national and international level.

At this time of great pain and consternation, Apathany extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and to all Mozambicans.
Rest in peace CHICO ANTÓNIO.
