Chiquinho Conde, coach of the Mambas (Mozambique national football team), assured that negotiations for the renewal of his contract could be concluded in the coming days. Despite acknowledging the normal disagreements in the process, the coach believes that both parties will reach a satisfactory agreement soon.
The Mozambican Football Federation has expressed interest in keeping Chiquinho Conde in charge of the national team, and a team has been appointed to conduct negotiations with the coach. However, there is still no set date for the signing of the new contract.
“"The process is following its normal course. I think that, shortly, we will have the final result," said Chiquinho Conde, highlighting the normality of differences of opinion in negotiations.
“Like any other negotiation, there are always some points where the parties agree or disagree. As a man of football, I only like to talk about football, I like to think about football, because that's what brought me to the country and that's what the people need too. I sincerely hope that things get resolved as soon as possible,” the coach concluded.
The Mambas have important matches coming up soon, facing Mali and Guinea-Bissau in the next qualifying rounds for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The coaching staff has already begun analyzing their opponents, aware of the challenges ahead.
“They are two very difficult opponents. Mali is a seeded team and has a range of players who play abroad, so it won't be an easy task. Now, as in all campaigns, we have to be very pragmatic. I usually say that caution and chicken soup never hurt anyone. We also have the quality to compete head-on with any opponent,” explained Chiquinho Conde.
Recently, the coach was honored by the Municipal Council of Beira, his hometown, for his contribution to Mozambican sport. “It’s the first time in my country, for the career I’ve had, not only as a footballer, but also as a national team coach. It’s recognition from a mayor, from a city that saw me grow up, and I feel flattered because I feel I have dignified not only my family name, but also the name of the city of Beira and the country beyond its borders,” said the emotional coach.
