For the author, this work is not just music, but also a rescue act:
“Fado has its roots in African suffering, that’s why it’s MINE! For me, singing Afro-Fado is about reclaiming my ancestry and the Black soul that, for centuries, has been scattered throughout the world,” she stated.
In the manifesto accompanying the launch, Paulina recalls that fado arrived in Europe and Brazil via slave ships, where enslaved people raised their prayers in the form of song. Thus, the Afro Fado emerges as a A song of praise to Mother Africa., a continent that, in his words, “is the salt that gives flavor to life, the eternal sun that illuminates the world, and the city built on a hill that can never be hidden.”.
With this EP, Paulina Chiziane proposes a sonic and spiritual journey, inviting the audience to reflect on historical memory, the pain of slavery, and, at the same time, the strength of African culture as a source of hope, resistance, and light.
“"Afro Fado – The Return of the Caravels"” It is now available and promises to mark a new stage in the career of one of the most important voices in Mozambican literature and culture.
