The Mozambican rapper Nikotina KF is preparing a different celebration to mark his birthday this Saturday. Instead of a private party, the artist opted for an event open to the public, with free entry, taking place in Independence Square, in the city of Maputo, from 15 hours.
The initiative will feature a column with instruments, microphones available for improvisations, and the participation of its pupils of the collective A Forca, a group Nikotina has been closely following in its artistic development. The proposal is simple: anyone who can rhyme can step up to the microphone and showcase their talent.
In addition to the improvised performance, the event will also be a moment of sharing and proximity with fans. Anyone who wishes can take a photo with the artist or offer a symbolic gift. However, Nikotina made a point of emphasizing that everyone is welcome, regardless of that.
The occasion takes on even deeper meaning, considering the rapper recently lost his father. The decision to hold a public and spontaneous event can also be seen as a way to honor life, value the present and stay connected to the community that supports him.
The meeting will be broadcast live on social media of the artist, as part of the symbolic start of first season of “The Gallows”, a project that aims to promote new voices in the Mozambican rap scene.
Nikotina KF thus continues to assert himself not only as a rapper, but also as mentor and cultural facilitator, bringing hip-hop to public spaces and promoting freedom of expression through art.
