Mozambican artist Moreira Chonguiça won the "Best International Jazz Album/Artist" award at the 7th edition of the "Mzantsi Awards," which took place this Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Soweto Theatre in Johannesburg, South Africa.
It should be noted that the album “SOUNDS OF PEACE” was released in November 2022. In a statement shared on social media, Chonguiça thanks everyone who contributed and collaborated in the promotion and voting for the album.
Chonguiça competed with his eighth album “SOUNDS OF PEACE” alongside albums by American drummer Makaya McCraven; Kokoroko, a Jazz/Afrobeat group from the United Kingdom; and Joshua Redman's quartet which includes Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride and Brian Blade.
Moreira had the opportunity to present the award to Her Excellency Maria Manuela Lucas, Ambassador and High Commissioner for the Republic of Mozambique in South Africa.
