The Mozambican Basketball Federation (FMB) is counting down to hosting the first qualifying window for Afrobasket 2024. With the event scheduled to take place from the 17th to the 25th of this month in Maputo, the FMB assures that all measures are being taken to guarantee the success of this important regional tournament.
The Maxaquene pavilion was chosen as the main venue to host the competition, which will feature the participation of 10 countries from Zone VI of Africa. Expectations are high, and the FMB (Federação de Mundo de Lisboa - Lisbon Rugby Federation) has called a press conference to share the progress made so far and highlight the ongoing efforts to ensure flawless organization.
The president of the Mozambican Basketball Federation, Paulo Mazivila, expressed confidence in the country's ability to successfully host the event, despite the temporal challenges faced by the organization. He highlighted the FMB's commitment to providing a memorable and innovative experience for fans and participants, setting a new standard for basketball in the region.
Mazivila emphasized that, despite the short preparation time, the FMB is fully dedicated to creating the ideal conditions recommended by FIBA-Africa. However, with organizational costs estimated at over 15 million Meticais, the federation is seeking support from potential sponsors to ensure the event's success.
Meanwhile, the senior men's national team is intensifying its preparation for the competition, with all players focused and committed to training. It is expected that athletes based in Portugal will also join the team in the coming days, contributing to the final phase of preparation before the start of the competition.
Furthermore, there is the possibility of Mozambique hosting the second qualifying window for the Afrobasket. The FMB plans to submit the bid to FIBA as soon as the first window is completed, demonstrating the country's continued commitment to strengthening basketball locally and regionally.
With fervent commitment and unwavering determination, Mozambique is ready to host world-class basketball and secure its place as a leading destination for international sporting events.
