Mozambique's national roller hockey team suffered its first defeat in the World Championship, losing 5-3 to Uruguay in a match marked by the resilience of the Mozambicans and a brace from Pedro Tivane Jr., which, despite an excellent performance, was not enough to avoid defeat. After two consecutive victories, the team coached by Bruno Pimentel saw its momentum interrupted by the strong Uruguayan team, which also came into the match with a winning record.
Uruguay started the match with an advantage, with Martin Balla Silva opening the scoring in the first few minutes of the game. However, Mozambique didn't take long to respond and, with a beautiful goal from Pedro Tivane Jr., restored the tie (1-1), a result that held until the end of the first half.
In the second half, Uruguay came back stronger and quickly extended their lead, scoring three goals in quick succession, two by Juan Hernandez and one by Martin Battistoni. Mozambique continued to fight back, and Pedro Tivane Jr. scored his second goal of the match, reducing the score to 4-2.
The Mozambican team maintained the pressure, but Uruguay extended their lead again, once more through Martin Balla Silva, making the score 5-2. Mozambique had a chance to react when Pedro Tivane Jr. was awarded a penalty, but he failed to convert, missing the opportunity to reduce the deficit.
With just over five minutes remaining in the match, Mozambique scored again, this time through Absalão Miquissene, making it 5-3 and rekindling hopes of a draw. Despite their final effort and belief in a possible comeback, the Mozambican team failed to turn the game around, ultimately losing by two goals.
With this defeat, Mozambique has accumulated two wins and one loss in the World Cup. The next challenge will be against the Israeli team, which so far has had an impeccable performance, with three wins in three games, including impressive victories against Japan (11-1), New Zealand (10-0) and Mexico (9-0). This will be another difficult test for the Mozambican team, which will seek to regain its rhythm and secure a favorable position in the group.
Despite the defeat, the Mozambican team showed resilience and continues its fight in the Roller Hockey World Championship. Pedro Tivane Jr.'s performance, with two goals scored, was one of the highlights of the match, demonstrating the team's quality. The next match, against Israel, will be crucial for Mozambique's aspirations in the tournament.
