Mozambique wins eight gold medals at the Taekwondo Open in Botswana.

The Mozambican National Taekwondo Team achieved an outstanding performance at the third edition of the Botswana Open, held last weekend, winning a total of 15 medals. Eight of these medals were gold, securing Mozambique the trophy for best delegation in the competition.

With 14 athletes representing the provinces of Inhambane, Nacala Porto and Maputo, Mozambique competed in the poomsae (forms) and kyurugui (sparring) disciplines. Among the gold medalists were Iainne da Silva, Pedro David, Samantha Mabote, Tildo dos Santos, Larchen Cumbe, Sibaue Malaune and Keysson Langa.

In addition, athletes Ancha Momade, Carla Bento, Gregório Mário, and Keyzer Ribeiro won silver medals, while Stefânia Lorenzini and Bernardo Inguana won bronze.

Iainne da Silva was elected the best senior female athlete in the SADC in the 62kg category, and Pedro David was elected the best senior male athlete in the 58kg category. Mozambique also received the award for best coach of the tournament.

The event featured teams from Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, and Mozambique, solidifying Mozambican taekwondo as a growing force in the region.
