Mozambican international boxers Alcinda dos Santos and Armando Sigaúque shone on the boxing scene by winning gold medals at the Mandela African Boxing Cup, held in the South African city of Durban.
Alcinda dos Santos, in the 70kg category, dominated the ring by defeating Temalangeni Dlamini, from Eswatini, by technical knockout, in a fight that ended in just one minute and forty seconds, demonstrating her physical and technical superiority.
In turn, Armando Sigaúque (57kg) was not far behind, demonstrating his skill and determination by defeating Amzolele Dyeyi, from South Africa, in an exciting split decision by the judges, with a score of 3-2.
These achievements not only highlight the athletes' dedication and talent, but also represent a tribute to the anti-Apartheid icon, Nelson Mandela, whose legacy inspired this prestigious international event.
With these achievements, Alcinda dos Santos and Armando Sigaúque confirm their excellent performance in sports, preparing themselves for future challenges of great importance. Alcinda has the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on the horizon, after securing her place in the African qualifying tournament last year in Dakar, Senegal. Meanwhile, Armando Sigaúque is focused on the final qualifying window for the Olympics, which will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, in late May.
Sigaúque, in particular, showed an exceptional performance in South Africa, where he won all three of his fights at the Mandela African Boxing Cup, thus consolidating his position as one of the promising fighters of Mozambican boxing.
