MC Roger Honored with Certificate of Merit at the Launch of the 10th Edition of the Punhos no Ar Festival

Last Friday night, the iconic Mozambican singer MC Roger was distinguished with a certificate of merit during the official launch cocktail of the 10th edition of the National Hip-Hop Festival “Punhos no Ar”, held at the Mar à Vista Restaurant in Maputo. The ceremony, organized by Nexta Vida Entertainment, marked the beginning of the decade-long celebrations of the country's biggest hip-hop festival.

The event brought together poster artists, partners, prominent public figures, and members of the media, creating an atmosphere of celebration and recognition. Overall, about 34 national personalities from the South, Center and North regions were honored for their contribution to the development and promotion of hip-hop culture in Mozambique and among them, MC Roger was one of the absolute highlights of the night.

Dressed elegantly and wearing a scarf adorned with cultural symbols, MC Roger took the stage to receive the certificate recognizing his undeniable contribution to Mozambican music and the empowerment of youth through his artistic work. The event was led by one of the event's speakers, who enthusiastically emphasized the importance of paying tribute to the figures who have shaped and continue to shape the national cultural scene.

“"This tribute is not just for what you've done in the past, but for the ongoing impact you have on Mozambican youth. Your name is a reference, both inside and outside of hip-hop."” said the speaker as he handed the certificate to the artist.

MC Roger's presence at the ceremony reinforced the idea that the Fists in the Air Festival goes beyond musical style: it's also a platform for appreciation, inclusion, and remembrance. Although the artist isn't a traditional rapper, his career has served as an inspiration for several generations and helped open doors for the growth of Brazilian urban music.

The recognition MC Roger received at the launch of FNHPA 2025 not only celebrates his solid and impactful career, but also conveys a clear message: it is necessary to recognize and value our references while they are alive.

With the 10th edition of the festival scheduled for the day August 9th, at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Center, the organizers promise a rich program, with freestyle battles, music, poetry, debates, a hip-hop fair, and graffiti, all in the spirit of resistance, expression, and cultural affirmation that characterizes the movement. And now, with MC Roger among the honorees, this edition gains even more symbolic weight.
