MC Roger celebrates his 56th birthday: An icon of Mozambican music.

The veteran Mozambican singer MC Roger celebrates today, June 5, 2025, 56 years old, With a career marked by persistence, reinvention, and an undeniable contribution to national culture, MC Roger has established himself as one of the most influential figures in Mozambican urban music since the 1990s, pioneering the fusion between... hip-hop and national sounds.

Born in 1969, Rogério Dinis – registered name – lived part of his childhood in Inhaca Island, After his mother emigrated to Portugal, he returned to Maputo at the age of 12, and later traveled to Portugal, where he developed an interest in television. However, destiny had another path in store for him. Three years later, he returned to Mozambique to pursue his dream of entering the world of communication and art.

The turning point occurs in the 1990s, when Zema This gives him his first opportunity in the music world. It is during this phase that Rogério decides to adopt the stage name of MC Roger, in a clear marketing and artistic positioning strategy. His debut album, “"Mozambique My Passion"”, quickly became a success, selling 10,000 copies and achieving silver record status. The theme “"I feel good in Maputo"” It has become an anthem of identity for many.

MC Roger later won three gold records, resulting from subsequent albums and collaborations with artists such Mr. Arssen, with whom he would share stages and studios. When Mr. Arssen chose to pursue a solo career, MC Roger supported the decision, continuing his own path with even more determination.

The success of the single “"You are beautiful"”, Recorded in Mozambique and Portugal, this album confirmed his status as a solid and versatile artist. Other hits followed, such as... “"Shake that Mambo"”, “"Zagaza"” and the striking “"The boss is the boss"”, released in 2007, solidifying his name in the national music scene.

Since then, MC Roger has remained a constant and respected presence, both on and off stage, participating in social responsibility campaigns, encouraging youth, and promoting music made in Mozambique.

Today, as we celebrate their 56 years of life, MC Roger carries a legacy that spans generations. His contribution is not limited to music – he is a symbol of... resilience, cultural identity and patriotism. And as he himself has said in several interviews: "Music is my weapon of construction.".
