Maxaquene and Sports League
from Maputo will face each other at 2:00 pm at the Costa do Sol field, in a decisive match of the last round of the Maputo City phase of the ZAP Mozambique Cup, 2024 edition. The winner will guarantee a place in the southern regional phase of the competition, corresponding to the round of 16, where they will face Associação Black Bulls, as defined in the recent draw.
Maxaquene, who already beat Liga Desportiva 3-0 this season in the tenth round of the National Championship, Division II - City Stage, enters as the favorite. However, Liga Desportiva still has a chance to advance, as teams often exceed expectations in knockout matches. Currently, in the Maputo City Championship, Maxaquene is in third place with 29 points, while Liga Desportiva is in 12th place with 15 points.
In the round of 16 of the South phase, Brera Tchumene will face Ferroviário de Maputo, Costa do Sol will play against Águias Especiais de Gaza, and Estrela Vermelha will face Associação Desportiva de Vilankulo.
In the Central region, the scheduled games are União Desportiva do Songo against Liga Desportiva de Sofala, Ferroviário da Beira against Chingale, and Textáfrica do Chimoio against Matchedje de Mocuba.
In the North Zone, the matches determined by the draw are Ferroviário de Nampula against Desportivo de Pemba and Desportivo de Nacala against Ferroviário de Lichinga. In this region, only one representative will advance to the quarterfinals, requiring two qualifying rounds to determine the regional representative in the national stage of the competition.
The round of 16 matches, corresponding to the regional stages, will be played next weekend, on July 20th and 21st.
