The prize “Voice of the Voiceless” is awarded to individuals who stand out for bringing visibility to ignored realities and for defending those whose voices are often silenced. By recognizing Mano Shottas with this award, the organizers reaffirmed the value of freedom of expression and civic engagement.
Shottas lost his life as a result of alleged planning. The award given to his wife symbolizes not only the recognition of her work, but also the continuation of her fight for justice and dignity.
During the ceremony, the academic and human rights defender Adriano Nuvunga highlighted the importance of preserving the memory of people like Mano Shottas, emphasizing that defending human rights also involves recognizing those who dedicate themselves, often under adverse conditions, to the fight for a more just country.
Although his voice was cut short, Mano Shottas' legacy lives on and inspires.
