Mambas on the Road to Qualifying for the 2026 World Cup

The Portuguese National Football Team, affectionately known as the Mambas, departed this morning from Maputo bound for Gaborone, where they will face Botswana on Thursday, November 16th. This match marks the start of Group G in the qualifying phase for the 2026 World Cup.

Under the guidance of coach Chiquinho Conde, the Mambas completed an intense preparation with five training sessions on the natural grass field of the Black Bulls Association in Tchumene, Matola. This tireless dedication aimed to refine the team's physical and tactical form, creating a solid foundation for the challenges ahead.

However, the journey to qualification is not without obstacles. Chiquinho Conde had to adjust his squad due to some unavailability, including essential players such as Geny Catamo and Witi, who, playing in Portugal, are facing injuries that temporarily keep them out of the national team.

To fill these gaps, coach Conde made important calls, bringing Stanley Ratifo, Jonathan Muiomo, Keyns Abdala, and Nelson Drivassone to the team. These players, now integrated into the delegation that traveled to Gaborone, bring with them the determination to represent Mozambique on the international stage.

Preparation doesn't end with their arrival in Gaborone. The Mambas have scheduled an adaptation training session at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium at 3 PM, as part of their strategy to acclimatize to the environment before the crucial match against Botswana.

It is imperative to remember that, after this initial match, the Mambas will face Algeria in the second round. The Zimpeto National Stadium in Maputo will be the venue for this clash scheduled for November 19th, where the quest for qualification for the 2026 World Cup will continue.

At this crucial moment, the Mozambican nation stands united in support of the Mambas. May the fighting spirit and dedication of these players inspire not only football fans, but an entire nation that longs to see its colors shine on the global stage. Good luck to the Mambas on this challenging journey, which is more than just a competition; it represents the pride and determination of an entire country.
