British Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton visited the Maratane refugee center, located in Nampula province, during his stay in Mozambique. The visit was part of his interest in learning firsthand about the situation of the people living there, as well as the work of organizations providing humanitarian aid.
The Maratane center is one of the largest refugee reception facilities in Mozambique, housing thousands of people who have fled conflict and crises in their countries of origin. Hamilton's presence at the center brought greater visibility to the situation of the refugees and the work carried out by the teams on the ground.
Hamilton expressed his admiration for the resilience of the refugees and the dedication of the humanitarian workers. "The strength, spirit and resilience of the people I met will stay with me for the rest of my life, as will the compassion of those working on the ground to defend and protect their lives," said the driver.
Lewis Hamilton's visit to Maratane highlighted his involvement in social and humanitarian issues, adding a new chapter to his already well-known commitment to global causes. The experience served to raise awareness about the reality faced by refugees in Mozambique and the importance of international support.
