In the publication, Josina presents a sequence of dates that highlight the recurrence of painful moments experienced by the Machel family:
- October 17, 1986: His mother, Graça Machel, was turning 41 years old.
- October 19, 1986: Just two days later, his father, Samora Machel, was assassinated in the Mbuzini air disaster.
- October 17, 2015: On the day her mother turned 70, Josina was brutally attacked, an incident that cost her the sight in one eye.
- October 12, 2025: Moisés “Zezito” Machel, a close relative, was murdered.
Concluding the message, Josina writes: “"October is terrible for the Machels"”, a phrase that conveys the emotional and symbolic weight that this month carries for the Mozambican presidential family.
Known for her activism in favor of human rights and her fight against gender-based violence, Josina Z. Machel transformed her personal pain into strength to inspire and support other women victims of violence. However, a recent publication shows that the wounds of the past remain open and that the month of October continues to be synonymous with mourning and reflection for the Machel family.
