Jay Arghh, an artist interested in African stories, sought out "REINALDO FREDERICO," the name given to NGUNGUNHANE, who spent the rest of his life in asylum in Portugal. He learned to read and write, was forcibly converted to Christianity, and was baptized as REINALDO FREDERICO NGUNGUNHANE. The "Lion of Gaza" died of a cerebral hemorrhage on December 26, 1906.
Jay Arghh also reveals that he enjoys giving his work interesting titles, similar to "Yasuke's Stories" – the title of his latest album. (Yasuke is the only African Samurai and was Mozambican), a fact that interested him greatly in paying tribute to him with a record. In the case of Reinaldo Frederico, the artist tried to highlight what the event symbolizes, which gives the title to the album, to be released on February 10th.
The fact portrayed in this work symbolizes what was happening at a certain time when people were stripped of their own identities and given a new one.
According to the artist, he looked at the situation in a very shocking way because it gave him the impression that people at that time were considered disposable.
Remembering that in addition to names, people in that time referenced by the artist received a new education, adopting new customs and leaving behind their identities.
This album for Jay Arghh represents yet another challenge in his career as it will bring us stories that left even him perplexed.
