The Portuguese coach, who has worked with two national teams, Ferroviário da Beira and the Black Bulls, and won the national title twice in 2021 and 2023, has never competed in the African Champions League. Despite being recognized as one of the country's most respected and talented coaches, that challenge still awaits him.
A Portuguese native, Hélder Duarte has already made his mark in Mozambique by leading two different teams to national titles. His journey began in 2021, when he led the Black Bulls to the Moçambola title. After this achievement, he chose not to renew his contract and returned to Portugal. Under a different coach, the Black Bulls competed in the African Champions League but failed to advance to the next stage.
However, Hélder Duarte didn't stay away from the Mozambican scene for long. The following season, he returned to the country to take charge of Ferroviário da Beira. Once again, his leadership proved crucial, leading the team to the national title. However, as with the Black Bulls, after this success, he chose not to renew his contract, opening the way for another coach to take over as Ferroviário da Beira prepares to represent Mozambique in the African Champions League.
Currently, Hélder Duarte is back at the Black Bulls, where his leadership has already resulted in an impressive start to the season, leading the Moçambola with 9 points from three games. However, while celebrating his current success, he still harbors the desire to conquer new horizons, especially in the African Champions League, a challenge he has yet to face.
