Sporting and Geny Catamo have reached an agreement extending the talented Mozambican player's contract until 2028, with the possibility of a further extension until 2029. The new contract elevates Geny Catamo to the third tier of release clauses at the club, setting it at just over 4 billion meticais (60 million euros). This figure places Catamo behind only Pedro Gonçalves and Diomande, with clauses of 80 million, and Gyokeres, who leads with 100 million. This represents a notable increase compared to the previous clause of 45 million, valid until 2025.
Negotiations to acquire 75% of Catamo's transfer fee, currently owned by Amora of Portugal, are ongoing. The final decision is expected in the coming days, with figures indicating a transaction worth over 2 million euros (approximately 130 million meticais). The Mozambican clubs Maxaquene and Black Bulls, where Catamo began part of his youth development, may benefit from this transfer through the solidarity mechanism, which reserves 5% of the value of a player's sale to the training clubs.
This new chapter in Geny Catamo's career marks not only a significant contract extension with Sporting, but also the player's solidification as a valuable asset to the Portuguese club. The substantial clause reflects Sporting's confidence in the player's potential and highlights his essential role within the team.
