After two failed loans and a exclusion from FC Porto, young Mozambican Geny Catamo emerges prominently on the national football scene.
At the start of this season, Geny Catamo's market value was just €600,000—less than when he was on loan from Sporting. During his loan spells at Vitória SC and Marítimo, his market value was no more than €800,000, dropping to €600,000 after a final, unsuccessful stint in Madeira.
Rúben Amorim's confidence and the increasing regularity in the coach's choices, including matches in the Europa League, have led to Catamo's market value reaching eight million euros (equivalent to 551 million meticais), according to Transfermarkt, in the most recent update on March 8.
Although he is not the player with the highest market value in the squad (11th), players such as Viktor Gyokeres, valued at 55 million euros, Ousmane Diomande and Gonçalo Inácio are valued at 40 million.
However, Catamo's valuation is significant, representing a 13-fold increase over his initial season value. Furthermore, it's notable that Catamo is the second most valuable Mozambican player in Portugal, having arrived in the country in 2019. Only Atlético Madrid's Reinildo is valued higher.
Geny Catamo, from humble beginnings, began his career at Amora. Pedro Russiano, his former coach, recalled his arrival at the team and his subsequent journey to Sporting, highlighting his talent and determination to succeed.
This season, Catamo has already played 35 games, scored six goals, and provided five assists, demonstrating his potential and contributing to Sporting. At 23, the Mozambican winger is looking to solidify his position at the club and remain on the path to success. (AzsCore)
