Last Friday, in Maputo, the third Women in Sport Gala took place, an event that highlighted remarkable Mozambican athletes and recognized their crucial role in the world of sport. Alcinda Panguane and Rady Gramane, two talented boxers, were the stars of the evening, receiving well-deserved praise for their remarkable achievements in boxing, both nationally and internationally.
These athletes, whose contributions to Mozambican sport are truly exceptional, have served as a source of inspiration for future generations. Their remarkable achievements and the impressive collection of medals they have won stand out, even in the face of the many adversities that the national sporting scene often presents.
The Women in Sport Gala, organized by the Women in Sport Movement Association (MODESP), aimed not only to celebrate the achievements of these incredible athletes, but also to recognize the essential role of women in the development of sport in Mozambique.
In addition to Alcinda Panguane and Rady Gramane, other notable athletes also received well-deserved praise. Vanessa Muianga, one of the country's most decorated beach volleyball players, Ássia Amade, a karate practitioner, and several athletes from the senior women's national football team, which recently won the bronze medal at the COSAFA tournament, were all recognized for their remarkable achievements.
The event also served to honor figures who have played a fundamental role in the Mozambican sports scene, such as former Mozambican international Deolinda Gimo, who was part of one of the most successful generations of Mozambican basketball.
The presence of the First Lady of the Republic, Isaura Nyusi, added prestige to the event, highlighting the important role that women have played in Mozambican sport, despite the difficulties faced.
Natércia Tomás, driving force and president of the Women in Sport Movement Association, highlighted that women face significant challenges in sports and advocated for the need to provide better working conditions and support for female athletes, acknowledging the excellent results they have achieved.
The Women in Sport Gala is not only a celebration of the achievements of Mozambican athletes, but also a reminder of the untapped potential that women represent in sport. Mozambique continues to demonstrate a growing commitment to supporting and empowering women in sport, paving the way for a promising and inspiring future for future generations of aspiring women.
