Ferroviário de Maputo was crowned champion of the Maputo city in senior women's basketball tonight, after defeating Costa do Sol 63-55 in the decisive Game 3 of the final playoff. The match, held at the Pavilhão do Desportivo de Maputo, marked the revalidation of the title for the Ferroviário team, which demonstrated a solid recovery after losing the first game of the series.
After a balanced start, Ferroviário de Maputo managed to turn things around in subsequent games, showing grit and determination, especially in the decisive match. Coach Nelito highlighted the team's fighting spirit and ability to overcome adversity, despite the absence of a key player due to injury. “In this type of competition, anything is possible. Either team could have made it 2-0. We lost on the first day and, on the second, we evened things out,” he stated.
Nelito highlighted the importance of collective effort, praising the players' performance who, despite mistakes and a lack of offensive clarity at times, managed to improve defensively and control possession. "The whole team stepped up. We suffered, we made some mistakes... But then we improved defensively. We managed to have a lot of possession and improve in what was our weakness," added the coach.
The coach also made a point of praising the support the team received throughout the competition, highlighting the club's management and members for their continued support. "The group deserves congratulations, the management deserves congratulations, and the members deserve congratulations. And, above all, congratulations to everyone who supported us yesterday, today, and will continue to support us," he concluded.
With this victory, Ferroviário de Maputo reaffirms itself as one of the powerhouses of Mozambican women's basketball, consolidating another title in its record and reinforcing its dominance at the local level.
