Ferroviário de Maputo reaffirmed its supremacy in African women's basketball by winning the African Basketball League title for the third time. After triumphs in 2018 and 2019, the Mozambican club lifted the trophy again in 2024, crowning an impeccable campaign.
The Competition
The competition brought together 12 of the continent's best clubs, divided into three groups. The Mozambican team was in Group C, where it faced tough opponents, but stood out by finishing the group stage undefeated.
The Journey Towards Glory
The journey began with a narrow victory against Rwanda Energy Group (REG) of Rwanda, 78-74, in a game marked by balance and determination. In the second match, Ferroviário demonstrated strength by defeating Jean D'Arc of Senegal by an impressive 64-30. Concluding the group stage, the Mozambican team faced AS Makomeno of the Democratic Republic of Congo, imposing a crushing 88-38 victory.
Overcoming Adversities Along the Way
In the quarterfinals, Ferroviário faced Jean D'Arc of Senegal again and confirmed their superiority with a 65-44 victory. In the semifinals, the team faced APR of Rwanda, winning 86-72 in a game that demanded concentration and teamwork.
The Triumph in the Final
The grand final presented a worthy challenge: Al Ahly of Egypt, one of the continent's most traditional teams. In a thrilling match, Ferroviário de Maputo showed resilience and determination, securing an 81-72 victory and celebrating, in front of thousands of fans, the conquest of the long-awaited African title.

With the 2024 title, Ferroviário de Maputo now has three continental titles, reaffirming its status as a powerhouse in African women's basketball. This achievement is a milestone not only for the club but also for Mozambican sport, which continues to shine on the international stage.
