Ferroviário de Maputo: Five Seasons Without a Victory in the Opening of the Moçambola

The Locomotives from the capital face a challenging run of five seasons without a victory in the first round of the National Football Championship, the Moçambola, after losing to their namesake from Lichinga in their last debut.

The last time Maputo's "locomotives" celebrated a victory at the start of the Moçambola was on March 4, 2018, when they defeated 1º de Maio de Quelimane 3-1 at the Machava Stadium, which has been undergoing renovations since last year.

Since then, Ferroviário has faced a series of adverse results in their Moçambola debuts. In the 2019 season, they suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Liga Desportiva de Maputo. In 2020, the competition was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and upon its return in 2021, the "green and whites" only managed a goalless draw against União Desportiva do Songo in Machava. However, they were defeated again in 2022, this time by the "locomotives" of Beira by 1-2, and again in 2023, when they lost 2-0, this time at the Caldeirão do Chiveve.

The lack of success in opening matches has been an obstacle for Ferroviário de Maputo, who are looking to reverse this trend and start the Moçambola on the right foot. With the support of their fans and a determined team, they hope to turn things around and break this winless streak in their opening match of the championship.
