Next weekend, two Mozambican clubs will be in action in African continental competitions, marking the start of the 2024/25 African club competitions season. Ferroviário da Beira, the national champion, and Associação Black Bulls, winner of the Mozambique Cup, face significant challenges in their respective competitions.
Ferroviário da Beira in the African Champions League
Ferroviário da Beira, known by the nickname "Locomotives," begins its journey in the African Champions League facing the Eswatini champion, Mbabane Swallows. The first leg of the second qualifying round is scheduled for Friday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa, kicking off at 7:00 PM. It is important to note that Mbabane Swallows recently lost 3-0 to Black Bulls in a friendly match, which could be a positive indicator for Ferroviário.
Due to limitations at the Chiveve Stadium, which does not meet the requirements of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ferroviário da Beira will play away from home. The second leg will be held at the Tchumene Sports Complex in Matola. The team hopes to achieve a good result in the first match to secure an advantage in the decisive confrontation.
Black Bulls in the African Confederation Cup
Meanwhile, the Black Bulls Association, winners of the Mozambique Cup, begin their participation in the Confederation of African Football Cup (CAF Cup) with a significant advantage. The team will have the opportunity to play both of their qualifying matches against Alizé Fort of Comoros at home, in the Tchumene Sports Complex, which has a capacity of five thousand spectators.
Both clubs have an important responsibility in representing Mozambique in African competitions and seek to start their campaigns with victories that will guarantee their continued fight for continental titles. Expectations are high for Ferroviário da Beira and Black Bulls to showcase their potential and raise the profile of Mozambican football on the African stage.
