Elias Macamo could be the man of records this year in Moçambola

Yesterday, the Desportivo de Nacala forward broke a five-year drought in which a Moçambola player had not scored for the national team. Elias Macamo, who scored the winning goal for the national team in the 73rd minute, is also in the running to be the Moçambola's top scorer. It's worth noting that he's currently the top scorer in the national championship, with 10 goals in 15 matches.

It's important to remember that the last top scorer in the Moçambola scored 12 goals, and Elias Macamo is just 2 goals away from equaling that mark, with six rounds still remaining in the championship.

The last time a domestic player scored for the Mambas was in 2019, in Cape Verde. The scorer was Telinho, in a 2-2 draw in the race for the 2021 African Cup of Nations. Mozambique's other goal in that match, played in October, was scored by Witi, in the final minutes.

Elias Macamo, who is also the Moçambola's top scorer with 10 goals, is in great form. He returned to the national team after eight years in this doubleheader.

From 2020 until yesterday, all the goals in the CAN or World Cup campaigns had been scored by “foreign” players, with emphasis on Witi, Clésio, Ratifo, Guima and, above all, Geny.
