Elias Gaspar Pelembe turns 40 years old today.

Elias Gaspar Pelembe, affectionately known as Dominguez, celebrates his 40th birthday today, marking a rare trajectory as a football player and captain of the national team, the "Mambas". Since his debut in 2004, Dominguez has left an indelible mark on the Mozambican football scene.

Under Artur Semedo's leadership in 2004, Mozambique was undergoing a period of restructuring, and Dominguez emerged as a key player for the Mambas. During the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, he stood out as a prominent figure, solidifying his position in the main quartet alongside Tico-Tico, Dário Monteiro, and Simão Mathe Jr.

In the following cycle, leading up to the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup, Dominguez played a crucial role, contributing to the Mambas' qualification for the CAN finals in Angola, the country's last participation in the tournament. Over the years, he led the team as captain, accumulating more than a decade in that role.

Dominguez, the longest-serving player on the “Mambas,” is one of only three active players who were part of the team that represented Mozambique at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. His longevity and leadership are testament to his dedication to the national team. He is poised to lead Mozambique to Ivory Coast next year, marking his second appearance at the event.

Dominguez's career is not limited to international achievements; it is deeply rooted in his club accomplishments. Starting at Estrela Vermelha de Maputo, he stood out at Desportivo de Maputo, where he won the Moçambola in 2006. His time in South Africa included titles with Super Sport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and BidVest, making him one of the rare players to win the South African League four times with three different clubs.

After 17 seasons in South Africa, Dominguez returned to Mozambique in the middle of this year, representing União Desportiva do Songo. His return is more than just a change of club; it is a testament to his continued commitment to the development of football in his homeland.

Spot Games wishes the Mozambican star a happy birthday and hopes he continues to shine for as long as he can.
