Drama in the Life of Mozambican Singer Ancha Martins: Apartment Explosion and Imprisonment in Portugal

Renowned Mozambican singer Ancha Martins, known for her hit song "Amar é Tão Bom" (Loving is So Good), is at the center of a drama that has moved the music scene and captured the public's attention. Recently, José Mucavele, another icon of Mozambican music, made a moving appeal to the Mozambican government during the television program "Moçambicaque em Concerto" (Mozambique in Concert) to seek help from the Portuguese government to secure the singer's release. Ancha Martins is currently in pre-trial detention in a Portuguese prison.

The tragic story dates back about four years, when Ancha Martins blew up her apartment located on the 7th floor of a building on Avenida 25 de Abril, in Portimão, Portugal. The explosion occurred on May 23, 2018, after the singer received an eviction notice from the bank that had foreclosed on the property. The eviction notice appears to have been the catalyst for Ancha's tragic decision.

Divorced and unemployed at the time, Ancha Martins acquired a fuel container and bought 10 liters of gasoline, transporting the fuel to her residence. The Portuguese Public Prosecutor's Office reports that the singer used seven liters of gasoline to set fire to and destroy her apartment, resulting in a violent explosion that left the place completely devastated. Windows, window frames, furniture, and walls were reduced to rubble.

The tragedy occurred after Ancha's apartment was foreclosed on by the bank, and she received notification that the bailiff would take possession of the property on May 29th. Faced with imminent eviction, the singer made the drastic decision to set her home on fire, resulting in the explosion that landed her in legal custody.

José Mucavele's plea for help during the television program highlights the need for intervention and support for music personalities in such delicate situations. Ancha Martins' case also underscores the importance of emotional and social support for artists facing financial and emotional difficulties.

While the situation continues to unfold in the Portuguese courts, the music community and Ancha Martins' fans wait with apprehension and hope, wishing that she can find support and guidance to overcome this dark chapter in her life.
