Following his recent departure from Textáfrica, João Chissano was officially presented this afternoon as the new coach of Ferroviário de Nampula. The Mozambican coach's contract will be valid for 15 months, in an attempt to revitalize the team which is going through a difficult period in the championship.
Chissano takes over as head coach of the "Axinenes" at a delicate time, succeeding Artur Macassar, who was dismissed due to poor results. The new coach's debut is scheduled for next Sunday, the 22nd, at the Santuário 25 de Junho, where Ferroviário de Nampula will host Desportivo de Nacala in a match valid for the 17th round of the 2024 Moçambola.
In addition to the immediate challenge against Desportivo de Nacala, Chissano will face a series of difficult matches in the last five rounds of the championship. Ferroviário de Nampula will also face opponents such as Textáfrica, Ferroviário de Lichinga, Costa do Sol, Baía de Pemba, and Brera Tchumene.
The appointment of João Chissano has generated considerable debate on social media among the club's supporters. Many question the choice, especially considering the coach's departure from Textáfrica due to internal problems and the team's recent poor performance. Some comments expressed discontent, while others acknowledged Chissano's value as a coach, recalling his positive work leading the Mozambican national team.
One fan commented: “It’s surprising how someone who didn’t have a good record at Textáfrica is entrusted to a big club! I’m not happy as a fan.” On the other hand, there were those who defended the coach, recalling his past: “Great man, but lately he’s been in a low phase… He and Conde, as national team coaches, were worth 10,000 times more than other coaches who were only there to get paid.”
They say that good people don't stand still, and with this new opportunity at Ferroviário de Nampula, João Chissano will have the chance to once again show his worth and try to reverse the team's difficult moment. The pressure for results and the fans' expectations will be additional challenges, but the new coach is determined to lead the team to better days.
