Classic Nova announces the release of the album “Khondo Sano” for May 5th and tells the story behind the title.

The Mozambican duo Classic Nova is set to release their highly anticipated album titled “KHONDO SANO” on May 5th, and behind this intriguing title lies a story deeply rooted in the history and culture of Mozambique.
The title “KHONDO SANO” has its roots in an event that occurred many years ago in the Zambezia region, more precisely in Maganja da Costa, during a period marked by conflicts between tribes. Amidst these conflicts, a tribe from Niassa was facing a devastating war. One day, a single man survived the clashes, being seriously wounded and shot. Using black magic, he flew away, falling on the shores of Lake Maganja.

The impact of the fall drew the attention of the local population, who rushed to the scene to investigate what had happened. Upon arriving, they found the man severely injured and covered in blood. In his last words, he whispered “KHONDO SANO”. Although the population did not understand his language, they realized that these words were his name. In his honor, an area around the lake was dedicated as a monument to his memory.
Years later, a young man from the Javanese tribe of Niassa visited the lake area in Maganja da Costa and revealed to the population the true meaning behind “KHONDO SANO”: “THE WAR IS YOURS”.

This album is a dedication and tribute to KHONDO SANDO, encapsulating not only the story behind the title, but also conveying a powerful message about the challenges faced by communities in times of conflict.
Through the music and narratives contained in this album, Classic Nova not only celebrates the culture and history of Mozambique, but also invites listeners to reflect on the meaning of war, resilience, and peace in our lives.
“KHONDO SANO” promises to be an engaging musical journey that will not only captivate fans of the duo, but also leave a lasting mark on the music scene in Mozambique and beyond.
