Simião Ponguane passed away this morning at Maputo Central Hospital, after a long illness. For the past three years, Simião Ponguane had been battling liver cancer, attempting treatments both in Portugal and abroad, but without success.
Ponguane was one of TVM's longest-serving employees and is preparing for retirement. An irreverent journalist with a down-to-earth style, he became known for his on-the-ground reporting and in-depth interviews with various personalities. During his life, he held several positions at Televisão de Moçambique: he was head of the newsroom, Director of Information, Director of the International Channel, Advisor to the Board of Directors, and TVM correspondent in South Africa. He was also a correspondent for Voice of America.
Details regarding the funeral arrangements are not yet available. At this time of sorrow, TVM extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
