Stewart Sukuma is deeply moved by the tragedy that claimed the lives of young athletes from Ferroviário da Beira.

Musician Stewart Sukuma used social media to express his grief and outrage after learning of the tragic deaths of three young athletes from Clube Ferroviário da Beira. Vagne Francisco, Gildo Saué, and Cardoso Manuel, from the Under-14 basketball team, lost their lives last Saturday, July 13th, when a car fleeing from the police crashed into a barbershop and fatally shot them.

Whenever I see news like this, my heart breaks. We have already suffered too much from wars, injustice, hunger, disease, pandemics, and dying this way hurts. In truth, dying is unfair, especially when you are young and in these circumstances. Lives cut short so prematurely! It's almost incomprehensible!!!“, wrote Stewart Sukuma.
The artist also offered his condolences to the families and to the Ferroviário da Beira club.

According to an official statement from the club, the three athletes had secured qualification for the Cornelder Tournament finals on the same day as the accident. This moment of sporting glory was abruptly interrupted by a tragedy that plunged the entire community into grief and bewilderment.

“"Rest in peace, champions," the club wrote in a tribute.

The shock caused by the death of these young athletes reignites the debate about public safety and the right to grow and dream in an environment free from violence. For Stewart Sukuma, and for so many other Mozambicans, this loss represents not only the physical death of three promising athletes, but the premature silencing of stories that had barely begun.
