Mozambican writer Virgília Ferrão has been announced as the grand prize winner of the 2025 edition of the Maputo–Lisbon Literary Residency program, a joint initiative of Camões – Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo and the Lisbon City Council. The program, which aims to support literary creation and promote cultural exchanges between Mozambique and Portugal, annually selects a Mozambican author to develop a literary project in the Portuguese capital.
For a month, Virgília Ferrão will have the opportunity to reside in Lisbon, where she will explore cultural, historical, and social spaces that serve as inspiration for her next novel. The residency will allow the author to expand her narrative universe and benefit from a creative environment conducive to literary production, in addition to establishing contacts with cultural and literary agents in the city.
Recognized for her sensitive and engaging writing, Virgília Ferrão is one of the most important voices of the new generation of Mozambican writers. Her participation in this residency reinforces the cultural exchange between the two Portuguese-speaking countries and underscores the importance of institutional support for contemporary African literature.
Quintanicy, ideal to accompany you on any adventure.

The Maputo–Lisbon Literary Residency program has been consolidating itself as an international platform for Mozambican writers, promoting diversity and the circulation of ideas through literature.
