“"Bread is Now a Burden of Exploitation": K9 Denounces Social Crisis and Appeals for People's Unity

Mozambican rapper K9, known for using music and social media as a platform for social reflection, has once again raised his voice — this time with a powerful outburst about the rising cost of living and the lack of response from national leaders.

In a publication filled with criticism and realism, K9 stated that "bread will now be a luxury," clearly alluding to the rising cost of basic food items. For the artist, bread, a traditional symbol of daily sustenance, has become a luxury item reserved for a select few. While acknowledging that wheat is not the most nutritious or alkaline food, he also highlights that alternatives such as sweet potatoes, cassava, avocados, salads, and eggs are equally becoming unaffordable for most Mozambicans.

In an ironic yet reflective tone, K9 says he has managed to maintain his weight "thanks to rising prices and the cost of living," and takes the opportunity to warn about the importance of reclaiming healthier, more alkaline eating habits. However, his focus goes far beyond diet: he points to a social and moral collapse, where the former heroes of liberation have allowed themselves to be corrupted by greed.

“They are sick and blind,” he wrote, referring to the leaders who should be protecting the people. For K9, the people have been abandoned and need to take charge of their own survival. The rapper calls for independent production, mutual support and, above all, unity: “Let’s leave behind the envy, the corruption and the disagreements, the focus is on unity now.”.

This artistic manifesto by K9 is not just a cry of revolt, but also a call to collective conscience. In a country where inequality is growing and basic foodstuffs are becoming inaccessible, his message resonates as an urgent appeal for solidarity, local production, and community rebuilding.
