On his 41st birthday, the legacy of Edson da Luz, better known as Azagaia, is once again celebrated with the art he so skillfully used to awaken consciousness. May 6th, the Mozambican rapper's birthday, was chosen as the official release date for a new track in his honor, available on all digital platforms starting this Tuesday.
The song pays tribute to one of the most respected lyricists in Mozambique and the Portuguese-speaking African countries, whose voice stood out for his commitment to social justice, denouncing inequalities, and empowering people through hip-hop. Having passed away on March 9, 2023, Azagaia remains an undisputed figure in protest music, with works such as Babalaz and Cubaliwa to serve as a political and cultural manifesto.
Born in Namaacha, Maputo province, in 1984, Azagaia began his musical career at the age of 13 with the group Dinastia Bantu and released his first solo album in 2007. Since then, he has stood out for songs that question the status quo and address issues such as corruption, violence, prejudice, and freedom of expression — which has earned him not only acclaim, but also controversy and even persecution.
Quintanicy, ideal to accompany you on any adventure.

The track released today is part of an ongoing movement to recognize and value his work and social impact. It's another chapter in a living tribute that echoes in the streets, schools, debates, and stages of Mozambique and beyond.
Azagaia is gone physically, but his voice remains strong in the collective memory of a generation that, with him, learned to say: “People in power!”
