Paulina Chiziane gives a lecture on “Women’s Education in Mozambique” at UP-Maputo

THE Mozambican writer Paulina Chiziane, the first woman to publish a novel in the country, will be the keynote speaker at the lecture “Women’s Education in Mozambique: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”, which takes place this Wednesday at 11:30 am, no Paulus Gerdes Amphitheater, at the University Campus of Lhanguene, Pedagogical University of Maputo (UP-Maputo).

The event is part of the Mozambican Women's Day celebrations, April 7, and seeks to promote reflection on the role of women in the country's social and economic development. In addition to the lecture, the program includes recreational activities, health and gastronomic fair.

Paulina Chiziane, Doctor Honoris Causa from UP-Maputo since 2022, was recognized for her contributions to Mozambican literature and her research on the status of women in society. At the time, she warned of the need for Mozambique produce your own knowledge, arguing that excessive dependence can put the country's sovereignty at risk.

With a career dedicated to literature and the promotion of women's issues, Chiziane is the author of remarkable works such as “Ballad of Love in the Wind”, “Niketche” and “The Seventh Oath”, which portray the challenges, struggles and achievements of Mozambican women.
