Mozambique's senior women's national basketball team continues to face financial difficulties in preparing for the Zone VI qualifier against Angola, which will take place in Luanda next Monday and Tuesday. This qualifier will determine the region's only spot for Afrobasket 2025, which will be held in Ivory Coast in July and August.
Despite the games being close, the Mozambican Basketball Federation (FMB) has not yet secured the necessary funding, needing five million meticais to cover accommodation, food, and registration fees. However, airfare for the team has already been secured, representing a significant step forward in organizing the trip.
Regarding the team's preparation, coach Nilton Manheira stated that the work is progressing satisfactorily. Although one athlete reported physical complaints, she has already rejoined the group and the team continues to consolidate its tactical and defensive system. Manheira also emphasized the importance of focusing on the psychological aspect, since it is a two-legged tie where the points difference will be crucial for qualification.
On the other hand, Paulo Mazivila, president of the FMB, explained that, although there are promises of support, the budget for the competition was reduced due to the non-registration of several teams, which resulted in a reduction in the number of days of stay in Luanda. Mazivila reiterated the urgent need for five million meticais to cover the remaining costs and guarantee all the team's logistics.
