Mozambican music has lost one of its invisible but fundamental pillars. Black Cross, known for his essential work in setting up nearly every recording studio in Mozambique, has passed away, leaving a profound void in the artistic community.
Mozambican rapper K9 was one of the first to publicly express his shock at the loss, describing Black Cross as a true "baobab" of the industry. In a message shared on social media, K9 wrote:
“Rest in Power, Black Cross. The people behind the spotlight are special. Black Cross was a baobab in setting up almost all of Moz's studios. We already miss you 😔 Chopale in mourning 🙏🏾🇲🇿 🖤”
Black Cross was widely respected not only for his technical talent but also for his dedication and humility. He played a crucial role in creating the infrastructure that sustains Mozambican music, helping artists and producers transform their visions into reality.
His departure leaves the community in mourning, but also reinforces the recognition of those who work behind the scenes to elevate the country's culture.
May Black Cross rest in power and may his legacy continue to inspire Mozambican music for generations to come.
