Nasir Salé: The Lord of the Rings of African Basketball

Nasir Salé reaffirmed his position as one of the most successful coaches on the continent by winning the Women's Basketball Africa League (WBLA) title for the fourth time. With Ferroviário de Maputo's victory over Al Ahly of Egypt in the 2024 final, held in Dakar, the Mozambican coach has accumulated titles in four editions of the competition: 2007 and 2008 with Desportivo Maputo, 2012 with Liga Desportiva de Maputo, and now 2024 with Ferroviário de Maputo.

The First Victory: 2007

Nasir Salé's journey to stardom began in 2007, at the helm of Desportivo Maputo. That year, the Mozambican team defeated D'Agosto of Angola in the final, with a brilliant performance from Senegalese player Salimata Diata. It was Salé's first title and a milestone in his career.

The Back-to-Back Championship: 2008

In 2008, Salé led Desportivo Maputo to their second consecutive African championship, in a competition held in Nairobi, Kenya. Yolanda Jones, an American in great form, stood out as a key player in the victory, demonstrating Salé's ability to manage international and local talent.

Glory with the Sports League: 2012

Four years later, in 2012, Nasir Salé shone again, this time with Liga Desportiva. The title was won in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, in a memorable final against Interclube of Angola. Asta Traore, one of the team's stars, was instrumental in the victory, demonstrating Salé's skill in building winning teams.

The Consecration in 2024 with Ferroviário de Maputo

Twelve years after her last triumph, Nasir Salé returned to the top of African basketball, leading Ferroviário de Maputo to an 81-72 victory over Al Ahly of Egypt in the final held in Dakar. This achievement not only marks Salé's fourth African Cup, but also consolidates Ferroviário as one of the leading forces in women's basketball on the continent.

An Unparalleled Legacy

With four continental titles, Nasir Salé is undoubtedly a living legend of African basketball. The "Lord of the Rings," as he is affectionately known, leaves a legacy of excellence, hard work, and achievements that inspire generations of athletes and coaches.

Congratulations, Nasir Salé, on your remarkable career and this latest achievement that elevates Mozambican basketball to the highest level!
