The UP-MAPUTO women's volleyball team has been crowned African club champion in Zone VI for the second consecutive year. The "Ferroas," as they are affectionately known, defeated SPIKING STARS of Botswana 3-1 in the final played in Gaborone on Saturday afternoon, December 14th.
The game was marked by moments of high tension, with the local crowd fervently supporting the Botswana team. However, the UP-MAPUTO players demonstrated technical and tactical superiority, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-16, frustrating the home team's aspirations of winning the trophy.
Despite Botswana's significant investment, which fielded eight teams in the competition, the "Ferroas" demonstrated their class and determination, bringing the title back to Mozambique. This triumph consolidates UP-MAPUTO's dominance in the region, following their title win last year in Lesotho.
National Pride
With this achievement, the UP-MAPUTO players have become a symbol of pride not only for the Pedagogical University of Maputo, but also for the city of Maputo and the entire country.
The victory reaffirms the team's role as a powerhouse in regional volleyball, representing Mozambique with distinction and raising the profile of national sport beyond its borders.
Thanks and Recognition
The achievement was supported by MGC GIGAWATTS, and coverage in Gaborone was provided by journalist Taulia Neuara of GCI UPM.
Congratulations to the champions! The "Ferroas" have proven, once again, that they are true "golden girls," bringing home their second consecutive championship and solidifying their position as one of the best teams in Southern Africa.
UMAPUTO: Pride of Mozambique!
