The Mozambican national football team secured a significant feat by securing its spot in the 2025 World Cup after participating for the first time in the Intercontinental Football 7-a-side Competition held in Brazil. With a campaign marked by challenging moments and competitiveness, Mozambique finished fifth in the table, standing out among the newcomers.
Despite a 5-1 loss to Jardim (Brazil) in the second round, the team showed determination by drawing 1-1 with Tic Tac (Chile) in the third round. Qualification was confirmed in a tense match against Colombia, which also ended 1-1 in regulation time, with the Mozambicans taking the final decision on penalties.
Now, with the World Cup presence assured, attention turns to preparing and improving conditions for 7-a-side football in the country, including strengthening local infrastructure and competitions, in order to consolidate the growth of the sport and improve the team's performance in future competitions.
