Mozambican singer Shellsy Baronet and rapper Hernâni da Silva Mudanisse used their social media platforms to express outrage and sadness at the recent acts of violence in the country. In their posts, both condemned the episodes of police brutality against unarmed protesters, highlighting the incident where a person was run over by an armored vehicle during a demonstration.
In a statement shared by Shellsy Baronet's management team, the artist described the incident as "unacceptable," emphasizing that the advance of an armored vehicle against defenseless citizens is not just physical aggression, but a direct attack on freedom of expression, life, and justice. "The person who was run over could be a mother, a daughter, an aunt, a friend. Lives are extinguished without reason, as if they had no value, and that is inadmissible," she wrote.
The text also criticizes the role of police authorities, who, instead of protecting the people, have acted violently against their own citizens. Shellsy emphasized that protesting is a fundamental human right and a pillar of any democracy. "A people who only cry out for dignity, respect, and opportunities cannot be treated as an obstacle to be removed," she declared.
Hernâni da Silva, in turn, shared the post on his Facebook page, broadening the reach of the message and reinforcing the call for justice. The rapper, known for his active stance on social issues, joined his voice to Shellsy's to draw attention to the need for urgent changes in the country.
Both artists called for a Mozambique where human lives are respected above all else. "May this video serve as a reminder that we need to fight, together, for a world where leaders choose to listen, instead of remaining silent," Shellsy Baronet emphasized in her message.
The recent demonstrations reflect the discontent of many Mozambicans with the current socio-economic situation, and the violence against protesters only intensifies the popular revolt. The artists' message serves as a call for reflection and action, demanding not only justice for what happened, but also structural changes that guarantee dignity and basic rights to all citizens.
With prayers and solidarity, Shellsy and Hernâni join the Mozambican people in the pursuit of a more just and humane future.
