Today, November 24, 2024, is the day to celebrate the 27th birthday of Shaquille Momad da Conceição Nangy, better known as Shaquille, one of the great talents of Mozambican football. Born in Inhambane, the player has achieved prominence throughout his career, both in the clubs he has played for and in the Mozambican National Team.
Shaquille began his career at Ferroviário de Inhambane and gained prominence while playing for Ferroviário de Maputo between 2016 and 2024. He made 81 appearances and scored an impressive 5 goals as a goalkeeper, a rare and memorable feat. During his time at the capital city club, he was a key player in their winning the Mozambique Cup in 2022.
In July of this year, the goalkeeper took another important step in his career by signing a contract with Sagrada Esperança, one of the main clubs in Angola. His experience and talent promise to add a lot to the Angolan squad.
Beyond his success at club level, Shaquille also has a remarkable career with the Mozambican national team. Since his debut in June 2021, in the historic 5-0 victory over Lesotho, the goalkeeper has shown his tenacity defending the colors of the Mambas. In the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, he played against Ghana and Cape Verde, demonstrating commitment, even though Mozambique did not advance in the competition.
