Mambas Confirmed in Pot 4 for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations

The Mozambique national team (Mambas) has been confirmed in Pot 4 for the draw of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), which will be held in Morocco. This pot, which includes teams with lower FIFA rankings, also includes the teams from Comoros, Sudan, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. Mozambique is ranked 98th with 1226 points, justifying its position in Pot 4, alongside teams such as Comoros (108th place, 1185 points) and Botswana (140th place, 1088.5 points).

The draw, which will determine Mozambique's opponents, will select one team from each of the four pots to form the groups for the competition, which will take place between December 2025 and January 2026. In addition to Pot 4, Pot 3 includes teams such as Angola (82nd, 1298.75 points), Gabon (85th, 1294 points) and Uganda (87th, 1269 points).

The top-ranked teams are in Pot 1, which includes Morocco (13th, 1681.54 points), Senegal (20th, 1627.13 points), Egypt (30th, 1526.25 points), Nigeria (36th, 1503.29 points), Algeria (37th, 1496.94 points), and Ivory Coast, the current champion. Pot 2 includes teams such as Tunisia (47th, 1478 points), Cameroon (49th, 1472.12 points), and Mali (54th, 1454.84 points).

The pots were determined based on the most recent FIFA ranking update, and the draw structure will allow Mozambique to face opponents of varying strengths, giving them the opportunity to excel in the competition.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will be a historic opportunity for the Mambas, who will have the chance to compete against the best African teams and seek a historic qualification in the competition, which will be held in Morocco, the host country.
