Have Artists and Influencers Abandoned the People? A Debate Raised by Rapper Nikotina

In a recent appearance on Fred Jossias's program, Mozambican rapper Nikotina raised a question that resonated with many: "Have artists and influencers abandoned the people?" According to him, public figures who once inspired and gave voice to everyday issues are now distant from the reality of the population. This statement prompts reflection on the role these figures should play and raises the question: do they have an obligation to stand with the people?

Nikotina mentioned that many people have lost faith even in television, which no longer fulfills its role of informing and connecting the population with real problems. In her view, artists and influencers could fill this gap, but, on the contrary, they have been distancing themselves.

The Role of Influencers: Between Entertainment and Commitment Social

The rapper's comment raises a reflection on the purpose and responsibilities of influencers and artists. Social media has transformed these figures into role models for millions of people, and with that comes the expectation that they can do more than just entertain. But to what extent is this fair? Is it really the role of artists and influencers to engage directly with social issues, or is that a responsibility that falls to other institutions?

On one hand, there are those who argue that artists and influencers should use their voice and reach to promote positive change, support social causes, and raise public awareness of real issues. In many countries, influencers have embraced awareness campaigns and fought for social causes such as racial justice, gender equality, and the environment. In Mozambique, this could also happen, creating a positive impact on people's lives. However, many prefer to focus on their own careers, claiming that their role is only to entertain and inspire through their talent.

Public Opinions: Is Responsibility Real or is it a Choice? Personal?

Nikotina's statements invite debate. Many in the public feel abandoned by artists who, according to them, have distanced themselves from real-world issues. But do celebrities really have an obligation to be engaged in social causes? Should each public figure choose how to use their platform, or is there an implicit responsibility to positively influence and respond to social demands?

There are those who believe that the distancing of influencers reflects a broader reality: platforms and media are not always connected to the most pressing issues of the population, and that it is up to public figures to fill this void, bringing representation and hope. On the other hand, there are also those who consider these demands excessive and that the main focus of artists should be their art, entertainment, and the growth of their careers.

Open Debate: What's Your Opinion?

Given these questions, we want to know: what are your thoughts on the matter? Do artists and influencers have a responsibility to act as voices of the people and support social causes? Or is this a choice that each individual can make? To what extent does the distancing of these figures impact the population and their trust in the media and public figures?
